Digital Word of Mouth – Sharing on Social Media
Word-of-mouth is not new. People have always talked about their experiences, emotions, needs and also products, services and brands they’ve used in the past. Marketers have known for years that word of mouth marketing (WOMM) is the most credible form of advertising because promoters don’t stand to gain anything personally by recommending the product and are even willing to put their own reputations on the line. Nearly every business you speak to will tell you that word-of-mouth is the most successful form of marketing but generating it on a large scale has alway been difficult. Relying on past customers to sing your praises works to an extent but the more people you have shouting about how great you are the better for you.
Why do people share
People enjoy sharing experiences with 78% sharing because of a good experience (47% because of a bad one). They enjoy being helpful as any good friend would and if they find a bargain or a great product/service very often they will let their friends and family know.
Sharing in the Digital World
With the dawn of Social Media came an opportunity to take word-of-mouth into the digital era. Facebook is the most trusted online platform for product and service recommendations. Household product/services reviews are trusted the most. The most important stat of all is recommendations from family and close friends has the biggest impact on an individual.
Working out the best way to capitalise on this is the key and we’ve done that for many clients.
